Here are some simple tips for fundraising:

  • Start with a target amount that you want to raise.

  • Compile a Prospect list of friends, family, and allies

  • Make a sponsorship program part of your pitch. Some people want to give more so ask.

  • Thank each donor with a handwritten card.

  • Track donors and prospects in your database. This can be a spreadsheet, CRM, or even index cards. These are future donors.

  • Consider offering a Sustainer program for your supporter to give monthly, quarterly or annually.

  • Rember to provide a holiday appeal. They work!

  • Create rewards and incentives for you and your team once goals are reached. Remember to celebrate your victories.

Some other tips on fundraising: In most groups there will be those who say the community cannot give right now for various reasons. It may be the holidays, tax season, or any other excuse. The fact is that there are donors who will give to your cause if you can come up with an outreach plan, develop your digital and physical assets, and do the ongoing work of making the ask. Assets include pre-printed remittance envelopes, sponsorship forms, info handouts, logos, and many other options. These days digital forms are very effective, as are free tools to centralize your database in an easy to use spreadsheet. Getting your group's information off of individuals computers and onto your org's shared exchange server ensures the data is not lost when members move on to other projects.
